Cabinet ministers and several government advisers have all been summoned at the government headquarters at 5 p.m..

The same sources said the announcement was made soon after the publication in the Official Journal of the presidential decrees acknowledging the resignation of Emil Boc from the position of prime minister and the appointment of Predoiu as acting prime minister.

They said Predoiu will ask Cabinet members to point out and remain focused on the administrative issues of top priority, adding he will also assure them the government will carry on its duties.

Boc said earlier Monday he was stepping down and giving up the government’s mandate, after weeks of political turmoil and social unrest. Romanian President Traian Basescu on Monday appointed independent justice minister Catalin Predoiu to the position of acting prime minister until a new Government is formed.
