Hospital manager Gheorghe Iana told MEDIAFAX that Colea Rautu, who had spent ten days in the hospital, suffering from cirrhosis, died Tuesday around 18.00 local time.
Iana said the actor had an older liver affliction, but his state worsened in the past weeks.
Colea Rautu was born on November 28, 1912, in Moldovan locality Balti. He took classes at the Drama Conservatory in Bucharest, after which he pursued extended thater activities, as he recited on various stages including the Operetta Theater, the State Theater in Pitesti, the Giulesti Theater, the Bucharest National Theater and the "C. Nottara" Theater.
Awards received by the actor include the "Artist Emerit" award, the State Award, the Karlovy-Vary Award and the Award of the Moscow Festival.
Rautu also played in countless films, including "Desfasurarea" (1954), "Bijuterii de familie" (1957), "Setea" (1960), "Castelanii" (1964), "Fantomele se grabesc" (1966), "Razbunarea haiducilor" (1968) – Ibrahim, "Mihai Viteazul" (1970) – Murad III, "Haiducii lui Saptecai" (1971) – Mamulos, "Nemuritorii" (1974) – Iusuf Pasa, "Stefan cel Mare – Vaslui 1475" (1975) – Soliman Pasa, "Toate panzele sus!" (1976) – Spanu, "Ultima noapte de dragoste" (1979), "Cel mai iubit dintre pamanteni" (1993).
