Oprita said Serbanescu had been suffering from an end-stage chronic disease for a long time, which ultimately led to his death.
Serbanescu's body will be laid Monday at the foyer of the Constantin Tanase Theater in Bucharest. The actor will be buried Tuesday at noon, at the Bellu cemetery in Bucharest.
Serba was a popular comedy and revue actor and played many roles on the stage of the Constantin Tanase Revue Theater, the National Theater, and also starred in many films. He made the most famous comedy couples with actors Emil Popescu and Radu Zaharescu, often starring in plays at Tanase, TV plays or in the radio show 'Unda vesela' by Ion Vova.
He made his stage debut at 5, in 1929, playing the role of King Michael in the play 'Miss Revista' (Miss Revue). At the same age, director Paul Gusti brought him to the National Theater where he played the double role of 'Statu Palma Barba Cot' in the show 'Rodia de Aur' (The Golden Pomegranate). Since the show was the first of the kind ever broadcast on the radio, Serbanescu is now seen as the oldest collaborator of the Romanian Radio Company. His first major achievement as an actor was reported at Gradina Volta Buzesti, with the play 'Profesorul de franceza' (The French Teacher), by Tudor Musatescu.
