“The hotel tax is set nationwide at 2% of the net value charged for one night or for the first lodging night in case of tour packages. Local council can evaluate and authorize a lower hotel tax to minimum 1% from the nationwide level of 2%, according to the interest of supporting and promoting local offers,” the draft act noted.

The current hotel taxes are set by the local councils and they range between 0.5% and 5% of the value charged for one lodging night. The hotel tax can also vary according to the hotel’s classification.
