Romanian Agric Min Calls For Extra RON1B For Agriculture In 2011

Romania’s Agriculture Minister Valeriu Tabara told MEDIAFAX in an interview he has asked the Finance Ministry for an extra 1 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.2723) in the agriculture sector’s budget for next year.

„The first measure I took when I became minister was to discuss a budget increase of up to RON1 billion,” said Tabara, who was appointed minister of agriculture last week, following a Cabinet reshuffle.

He added the extra money he has requested would cover direct complementary subsidies in the vegetal and animal husbandry sectors and subsidies for diesel fuel used in farming.

The Agriculture Ministry has a budget of RON2.1 billion this year.
