Romania Might Up Car Tax For Used Cars, Up Bonus For Old Car Scraps

Romania’s pollution tax for used cars could be increased in the government meeting Thursday, when the government also plans to increase bonuses granted for the scrapping of old cars to over EUR1,000, Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu said Wednesday.

"Tomorrow (Thursday – e.n.), we might decide in the government meeting to increase the car tax for second-hand cars," Tariceanu said.

He added the government is also looking at a possible increase of the bonus granted to people who agree to scrap old cars. He said the bonus should reach or even exceed the “psychological threshold” of the equivalent in lei of EUR1,000.
