Romanian Airline Tarom Admits One Of Its Planes Involved In Israel Incident

Romania’s state-owned airliner Tarom admitted Thursday one of its planes was involved in the incident Wednesday night at Ben-Gurion Airport in Israel, a few hours after a company spokesperson denied media reports that the Romanian airplane belonged to Tarom.

The airline said in a press release the plane flew over the airport, a "normal procedure" required by air traffic controllers, then landed in normal conditions, with just a nine-minute delay.

A Romanian and a Turkish plane nearly collided Wednesday night at Ben-Gurion Airport in Israel, when the Turkish plane attempted to take off as a Romanian approached the same runway to land, ynetnews.com reported Thursday.

The website reported airplanes belonged to Tarom and Turkish Corendon Airlines, respectively.

Tarom spokeswoman Ioana Boca told MEDIAFAX earlier Thursday the Romanian plane does not belong to the company.

"The TAROM ROT 153 Bucharest - Tel Aviv flight of Wednesday night flew over the airport before landing, at the request of air traffic controllers, as a Turkish plane was on the runway," Tarom said in its press release.

The press release adds air traffic controllers required two other flights to undergo the same procedure. The airline highlighted the procedure is standard and does not endanger passenger safety and the situation on the Tel Aviv airport is not considered an incident according to Tarom's flight safety procedures.
