“I am more than surprised by the decision of CNSAS (the National Council in charge with overseeing the files of former communist secret police),” Pacuretu said.
"All that I can tell you is that I didn’t cooperate with them, I didn’t inform them and didn’t sign any contract," the ambassador said.
He added he is expecting to have access to his own file at the council and wants to clear the situation.
The national authority overseeing the Securitate archives asked the court to check the cooperation of the Romanian ambassador to Bulgaria, Anton Pacuretu, and of former adviser of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, diplomat Gabriel Arteni, with the former secret police.
The trial on the collaboration of Anton Pacuretu with the secret services “Securitate” will begin on January 26, 2010, at the Bucharest Court of Appeals.
CNSAS carried out investigations during the time when Pacuretu filled a top position with Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry.
According to CNSAS, the archive contains officers’ reports on his activity, but the memos were not kept.
His file allegedly shows that he gave information in five memos concerning his college peers.
The archive contains only the volumes with the characterizations of the collaborators, which describe Pacuretu as a loyal collaborator.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry will make a decision in both cases after the court gives a final sentence following the request filed by CNSAS, the ministry responded at the request of MEDIAFAX in a statement on Tuesday.
