Romanian anticorruption prosecutors heard Tuesday Mircea Sandu, president of the Romania Football Federation (FRF), as witness in the file concerning transfers of footballers.
Sandu said he wrote a statement, but declined to give further details.
Sandu said he was not informed on a future appearance at the Anticorruption Department, or DNA, stressing the investigation continues to "dig up the truth."
On Monday, anticorruption prosecutors heard Gheorghe Dinu, former president of FC Rapid Bucharest and acting president of FC Brasov, as witness in the file concerning the transfers of several footballers abroad. Dinu said was heard as witness concerning the transfers of footballers Cristian Dulca and Florin Bratu.
On January 10, 2008, the anticorruption department prosecuted ten football moguls over transfers of footballers involving forgery, embezzlement and money laundering.
Thus, the prosecution targeted Ioan Becali – former football manager, Victor Becali – football manager, Gheorghe Copos – former owner of FC Rapid Bucharest, Sica Puscoci - lawyer, Mihai Stoica – former manager of FC Otelul Galati and acting president of FC Unirea Urziceni, Cristian Borcea – executive manager of FC Dinamo, Jean Padureanu – president of FC Gloria Bistrita, Mircea Stoenescu – former president of FC Dinamo pres, Gheorghe Popescu – former football manager and Gheorghe Neţoiu – former shareholder of FC Dinamo.
The transfers of footballers allegedly caused damages worth over EUR1.7 million to the state budget.
