„A deadline extension was asked, so that the Competition Council might look for new elements, by comparing its data with the ones of tax authority ANAF,” sources in the council told MEDIAFAX Wednesday.
On February 23, the government received the Competition Council’s conclusions regarding the fuel price increases, but Prime Minister Emil Boc was not satisfied with the general data presented in the document and asked the authority to a revise it with more details in maximum two weeks, respectively by March 9.
In January, ANAF drew up a report on the local fuel producers and distributors saying the pump prices were unjustifiable increased during the whole 2010.
On Tuesday, oil company OMV Petrom (SNP.RO) raised its gasoline and diesel oil pump prices by 0.09 lei (EUR1=RON4.1902) per liter, followed by a similar move from Rompetrol on Wednesday.
The oil companies in Romania said the fuel price growths were mainly due to the international prices for crude oil and the local competition.
The fuel distribution market in Romania has been analyzed by the Competition Council since 2005, with no conclusions.
