Romanian Arrested In Italy After Attempting To Steal Ballot Box

The incident occurred Saturday in a voting station near the Roma Aventino metro station. The 26-year old Romanian, who had been drinking, entered the station and attempted to leave with a cardboard ballot box.

The man was spotted by the personnel preparing to open the station. Upon the arrival of the police, the Romanian reacted violently, lightly injuring two agents trying to restrain him. The man was charged with aggravated theft and resisting a public official.
 
The episode took place at a voting station destined for Italian citizens. The European Parliament elections in Italy began Saturday afternoon and will end Sunday evening.
