The marine was driving a rented Jeep and, as he was leaving a gas station in Mihail Kogalniceanu location, he failed to observe the traffic rules and crashed into a car. Following the collision, the three people in the car were injured, but they did not need to be committed to hospital.

Inspector Marius Ghita, spokesperson of the Constanta Road Police Department, said Tuesday the marine would be investigated on reckless driving charges, adding his file would be submitted to the Prosecutors’ Office affiliated to the Constanta courthouse. According to procedures, the case will be referred to the U.S. authorities afterward.

Three years ago, a U.S. marine was involved in a car crash that killed an old man, while Romanian bass player Teo Peter was killed on December 4, 2004 in a car crash when U.S. marine Christopher VanGoethem ran a red light and hit the taxi in which Peter was.

VanGoethem was court-martialed but was cleared of negligent homicide charges.
