Boc said the 42 km segment will be completed by the end of the year, as the Ministry of Transport is monitoring the works to check if the allocated funds are put to use. Boc said that EUR119 million were allotted for the Transylvania Highway this year.

Transports minister Radu Berceanu said that the highway’s problems include moving a high capacity water pipe which supplies the city of Cluj-Napoca.

Bechtel, the company working on the segment, announced that the work might be delayed this year, as the Romanian Highway and National Roads Company had relocated only 19 utilities out of a total 38 which were to be moved by the end of April.

Bechtel announced it resumed laying asphalt on a 15 km area of the Campia Turzii-Gilau segment, due to favorable weather conditions. This operation will keep going until November-December, when it becomes impossible because of low temperatures.

The Transports Ministry will pay Bechtel EUR420 million this year.
