Romanian boxer Lucian Bute was very impressed about the way in which he was received this week at Parliament’s headquarters in Quebec, Canada. “It was touching to see 130 lawmakers all stranding up and applauding me. It was a once in a life time experience,” Bute said.
World winner of the supermiddle title, the International Boxing Federation version, Bute, who arrived Thursday in Romania, where he is to spend three weeks on vacation, said he hopes to keep the title until his carrier ends but also to win other such recognitions.
“I wanted to become a world champion because this is what I have been working hard for. However, I do not want to change, I wish to remain a modest and down to earth man as I have always been. This title has changed my life. In Canada people stop me on the street to congratulate me,” Bute said.
Bute said that he is always glad to be home. “What I felt when I won the title cannot be expressed into words. It was extraordinary. When I talked over the phone to all the people I love back in Romania, I could not help myself from crying,” Bute remembers.
Bute said that if he were to be invited at Parliament’s headquarters by president Basescu he would bring with him as a gift a pair of boxing gloves.
Bute Thursday arrived on Hneri Conada Airport in Bucharest. The boxer may defend his title in a match scheduled for February 29, also to take place in Montreal. His opponent will be one of the first 15 boxers in the IBF version.
