Between March 21 and 22, 25 and 26, 28 and 29, and March 30 and April 12, Bucharest-Bacau flights are canceled. Passengers will be handled by Bucharest-Iasi and back, with transfer my car between the Iasi and Bacau airports, Tarom says.

Between March 23 and 24, and 27 and 28, the Bucharest-Bacau flight will operate on the route Otopeni-Iasi, taking off at 19.10, and Bacau-Bucharest will operate on the route Iasi-Otopeni, taking off at 6.45. Passengers will be transferred between Iasi and Bacau by coach.

Romanian airline Blue Air will spend EUR45.3 million over a maximum of 30 months to develop Bacau’s international airport; in exchange, it will earn the right to use the airport infrastructure for 34 years, if it pays an annual fee of EUR400,000-500,000.

The deal was concluded in a concession contract between the airport and Blue Air, which was ratified on January 30 by the Bacau County Council.

The Bacau International Airport, the largest in north-eastern Romania, is owned and managed by the County Council, and is currently subject to a development program.

The airport’s general manager, Radu Bondar, stated a month ago that last year’s traffic was 114,000 passengers, but in the future, upon completion of the upgrade works, it could reach 1-1.5 million people.

Blue Air’s obligations under the concession contract are the construction of a new terminal each for departures and arrivals, improving the take-off/landing runway and access roads in the area.

According to airport representatives, three airlines – Carpat Air, Tarom and Blue Air – provide flights from Bacau to 17 destinations.
