Romanian Leu Most Affected By Intl Crisis In Region- Coface

Romanian leu is the currency in the region most affected by the international financial crisis, while Romania, alongside states like Lithuania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Turkey are considered "fragile" states, according to rating agency Coface.

Analysts also say the leu is one of the most unstable currencies on short term.

Nevertheless, the Romanian leu’s current level is considered more sustainable than last year’s highs.

As for the emerging states, the average economic growth in 2008 is seen at 4.6%, compared with 5.6% a year earlier, on the backdrop of foreign demand cut, price hike and the tightening of the monetary policy.

Analysts say the main challenge faced by economic policies in the region is fighting inflation while the increasing prices delay the euro adoption by the states that joined European Union between 2004 and 2007.
