Romanian-Built Car Dacia Ranked Third Most Reliable - French Study

The Renault group's low-cost brand, Dacia, was awarded a 92.61% reliability index, ranking it the most favorable car brand during the economic crisis. The two cars taking up the top positions are part of the Toyota group and keep last year's ranking: Daihatsu - 96.02%, Lexus - 94.13%.

The Romanian car did well in rankings by category. French people said it was the cheapest to maintain: estimates showed maintenance and repair expenses amount to EUR130 per year. UFC-Que Choisir's study said the most popular Dacia model is the five or seven-seat Logan MCV, which was ranked second among family vehicles, behind the Honda Accord.

Dacia has been a popular car during the crisis, in France and in other European states. According to the latest statistics, registrations of Dacia automobiles have risen 44.5% in France in the first 11 months of 2009, and by 60% in Germany compared to 2008.

On the Romanian market, Dacia has sold well, especially through the country's clunkers program, but used Dacia cars have also been popular, second only to Volkswagen.

Car market analysts forecast lower sales in 2010, on account of the worsening financial crisis and lower purchasing power of Romanians. European statistics show Romania was 14th by number of new car registrations in 2009, well behind states such as Poland or the Czech Republic.
