Romanian Businessman Puiu Popoviciu May Leave Country – Bucharest Court Of Appeals

The Bucharest Court of Appeals admitted on Monday the contestation submitted by businessman Puiu Popoviciu against prosecutors’ prohibition to leave the country, but the decision can be appealed.

Anticorruption prosecutors had issued an ordinance extending Popoviciu’s ban on leaving the country by 30 days. The Bucharest Court of Appeals admitted Popoviciu’s contestation of the ordinance, but this decision can be challenged before the High Court of Justice.

Prosecutors with the National Anticorruption Department decided on May 20 to extend Puiu Popoviciu’s ban on leaving the country from May 22 to June 21.

Romanian businessman Puiu Popoviciu allegedly took over, in 2000, a 230 ha plot of land from the Bucharest University for Agricultural Studies and Veterinary medicine, which was under-appraised at EUR82,000.
