"Since the normative act amending the unfolding of the final stage in the national car park renewal program for 2009 has not yet been promoted due to necessary regulations, this final stage of the program might not come to pass in the form already announced by the Ministry of Environment. The new format stated one client could buy a new car using the bonuses from three scrapped cars," said a press release issued Monday by APIA.
Romania's Environment Ministry proposed early September the introduction of vouchers worth 3,800 lei (EUR1=RON4.2670) for scrapping cars that are more than ten years old, and one buyer can use up to three such vouchers to buy a new vehicle.
APIA said the dealers authorized to sell cars in the car park renewal program delivered 4,500 cars in September which means 34,000 used cars can still be scrapped by December 11, more than a half of the 60,000 cars approved by authorities for the entire 2009.
