Romanian Car Market Climbs 5 Spots In EU By New Car Registrations In April
The Romanian car market climbed five positions by number of new car registrations and is ranked 18th in the European Union in April.

Although the Romanian car market climbed from the 23rd position in March to the 18th position in April by number of new car registrations in the EU, Romanian carmaker Dacia registered a decrease in the number of registrations in Europe after the clunkers program was halted in several EU member states.
The number of new car registrations in Romania rose to 8,875 in April, from 4,027 in March, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).
The number of new car registrations in Romania decreased by 19.7%, to 8,875 units in April 2010, from 11,052 units in the same month last year, said ACEA.
Over the first four months of 2010, the number of new car registrations on the local market fell by 56% compared to the same interval last year, to 17,694 units, from 40,178 cars.
New car registrations in the EU fell by 7.4% in April compared to the same month last year, to 1.134 million units, from 1.225 million units, as the car park renewal program was halted in many of the EU member states, including Germany which had been the main export market for Dacia in 2009.
Dacia car registrations fell by 15.6% to 19,848 units in April 2010, from 23,528 units in April 2009, and the Romanian carmaker's market share shrank to 1.7% from 1.9%.
According to the ACEA, Dacia new car registrations in the EU rose by 61% in March 2010 compared to the same month last year, to 30,764 units, from 19,103 units.
Renault car registrations rose 15.4% to 99,642 units in April 2010, from 86,360 in April last year, and Renault's market share climbed to 8.8% from 7%.
The Renault Group posted a total 8.7% increase in the number of new car registrations in the EU, to 119,490 units in April 2010 from 109,888 units in April 2009. The French Group's market share rose to 10.5% in April this year from 9% in the same month last year.
German carmaker Volkswagen's new car registrations fell by 7.7% to 256,476 units in April 2010, from 277,915 units in April 2009. Volkswagen's market share shrank only by 0.1 percentage points, to 22.6%.
French carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroen posted 158,113 new car registrations, up 1.3%, and a 13.9% market share.
U.S. carmaker Ford's new car registrations fell by 13%, to 107,071 units in April 2010, from 123,092 units in April last year.
Nissan, Renault's partner, posted a 38.% increase in the number of new car registrations to 31.466 units in April this year, from 22,750 units in April last year. The Japanese carmaker's market share increased to 2.8% from19%.
