Romanian Carmaker Dacia Continues Growth In EU In Jan-Oct

New car registrations in Europe of Romanian carmaker Dacia increased 4% on the year in October, to 21,320 units, and 10.5% in the first ten months, to 213,964 units, but was overtaken by other brands in terms of growth pace, according to data released Tuesday by the Association of European Carmakers (ACEA).

In the first ten months of the year, the biggest growth in new car registrations was posted by Land Rover (25.9%), Nissan (12.7%) and Volvo (11,9%), while in October the biggest growth was seen by Mitsubishi (43.2%), Alfa Romeo (11.4%) and BMW (6%).

Dacia registered last year the best growth rate in new car registrations in Europe, of 29%, mainly driven by national car park renewal programs in Germany, France and other EU countries.

Sales slowed immediately after the end of car renewal government programs.

Dacia did better than its owner Renault percentagewise both in October and in the first ten months. According to ACEA, Renault registrations decreased 17.9% in October and increased 7% in the first ten months. But in terms of volume, Renault remains the best-selling brand in the group's portfolio and registrations stood at 953,139 units in the first ten months.

Renault, which includes Romania's Dacia, is the third largest European carmaker by new car registrations in the first ten months (1.167 million cars), after Volkswagen (2.4 million) and PSA Peugeot Citroen (1.52 million).
