Low-priced energy should have been distributed to each consumer in a 30% quantum of the total energy consume.

Bratianu said that it is stipulated in European Commission Directive no. 54/ 2003 and Order no. 408/ 2006 of the minister of industry that consumers benefit from low-cost electric power and the transparence in the supply with energy.

The BNS leader accused government of failing to observe its obligations towards the household consumers. Consequently, he said that each consumer paid in the last three years and a half with EUR170 more to receive electric power.

Vulnerable consumers should benefit from subsidies, and according to European norms 30% of the electric power has to be low-priced energy, produced in hydro-electric plants.

“At an average consume of 100-150 Kwh, at EUR103/ Mwh the household consumer paid with EUR4 more every month, which means EUR48/year. Starting with 2004 and until the first half of 2007 it means EUR170 more paid by each consumer,” Bratianu said.

He accused government of wanting to introduce the multiple price system depending on the distance from the energy source of each household consumer. Thus, consumers in rural areas might be forced to pay more to receive electric power.

BNS will also hire lawyers to sue the Romanian state.
