The head of Romanian private airline company Regional Air Services, Stefan Vasilache, will takeover the leadership of the Romanian Civil Aeronautic Authority, or AACR, left vacant after Florea Geica’s resignation.
Romanian Civil Aeronautic Auth To Get New Chief On Nov 1
Vasilache was proposed by Antonel Tanase, secretary of state within the Ministry of Transport, and was approved by transport minister Ludovic Orban.
"I picked Vasilache Adrian Stefan out of several candidates, and the minister agreed," Tanase said in a press conference.
He added a decision suspending Geica’s flight permit will be taken by the investigation committee concerned with the incident in Turkey, two weeks ago, when the plane flown by Geica, carrying 83 passengers, left the runway and got stuck in mud.
At the same time, Tanase mentioned Geica will not receive any compensation following his resignation, as his contract was terminated through bilateral agreement.
Vasilache will take over his new position on November 1.
Vasilache holds flight permits for 14 types of planes and has 2,800 flight hours.
He graduated the Polytechnic Airship College in 1998 and has not held any public offices thus far.
Romanian transport minister Ludovic Orban said he approved the resignation submitted by the head of the Civil Aeronautic Authority, Florea Geica.
"Today I approved Geica’s resignation from the position of president of the Civil Aeronautic Authority. He explained his resignation saying he does not wish to damage the image of the Authority or the Ministry while he is targeted by media attacks," Orban told MEDIAFAX.
Orban said last week he will reach a decision in the matter when the control report on Geica’s activity is complete.
In the Government meeting held last week, Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu requested Geica’s resignation, saying “he already has a very high income,” ministry sources said.
Labor minister Mariana Campeanu announced mid-October that the Labor Inspectorate and the control body of the Ministry of Transport began an investigation at the Civil Aeronautic Authority, to check the pension files of manager Florea Geica.
The National Integrity Agency too is checking Geica’s income, as his pension is allegedly higher than 30,000 lei (EUR1 = RON3.6262).
Two weeks ago, Geica flew a Tarom plane on the route Bucharest – Istanbul. The plane came off the runway upon landing in Turkey.
The future chief of AACR is the general manager of Regional Air Services. The company was founded in 1998 and performs air work services and general aviation.
In 1999, the company took over the Tuzla Constanta airdrome, thus becoming the first Romanian company to hold a private airdrome in Romania. With a surface of 36 hectares, the airdrome has two runways, one hangar, management buildings and a fuel storage facility.
The company is the first private flight school and issues private pilot licenses for planes.
At the same time, Regional Air Services sells planes, airships and used planes.
