In August, Mizil underwent surgery in a clinic abroad and was later committed to a hospital in Bucharest, until last month, when the family decided to move him to an asylum-hospital, where he passed away Friday night.
According to the quoted sources, Mizil will be buried at Cernica.
Mizil’s body will be placed until Sunday in the main hallway of the Ministry of Finance, then it will be taken to Cernica.
Paul Niculescu Mizil was born on November 25, 1923, and was the finance minister of Romania under the communist regime. In 1945 he became a member of the Romanian Communist Party. He was the rector of the Superior Party School "Stefan Gheorghiu" and deputy headmaster of the Communist Party’s Institute for History (1955).
Between 1956 and 1968 he was head of the propaganda and agitation section within the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party and was later appointed deputy prime minister within the Government (1972-1981), education minister (1972-1976), finance minister (1978-1981), president of Centrocoop (1981-1989). At the same time he was a member of the Communist Party’s Central Committee (1955-1989) and of the Political Executive Committee (1965-1989).
In May 1961, he received the decoration “The 40th anniversary of the Romanian Communist Party".
