The decision was taken with a majority of votes.

The bill amending the Statute of police officers was adopted by the Chamber of Deputies on May 31.

The normative act was challenged with the Constitutional Court by 111 social democrat and liberal MPs who argued that the amendments allow for unconstitutional police layoffs.

Social democrat MP Mircea Dusa said early June the amendments to the Statute of police officers allow the prime minister to take any measure regarding the Interior Ministry.

Dusa said police officers have been public servants with special status, while under the new regulations they can be sacked through a minister order, which, he added, is unconstitutional.
