Romanian Consul In Warsaw Might Be Recalled In Crulic Aftermath

The meeting comes in the aftermath of the event where a Romanian citizen, Claudiu Crulic, who died of starvation in Poland, protesting by hunger strike against his incarceration on charges of theft.

"Tonight, I will meet with prime minister Tariceanu. Tonight, we will have an evaluation from Warsaw and the consul might be called to Bucharest," Cioroianu said.

"This morning, the control team reached Warsaw. Tonight, we will have a comprehensive evaluation on the matters found at the Consulate within the Romanian Embassy in Warsaw," Cioroianu mentioned.

Cioroianu added that, even if the consul could not go to Cracow himself, he could have called on Romania’s interior attaché in Warsaw, or the honorary consul in Katowicze.

"At this moment, we are interested in the correspondence between the consul and the deceased, because unfortunately there are some inadvertencies between the statements made by the consul so far," the minister said.

Romanian Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu told foreign minister Adrian Cioroianu in the cabinet meeting Wednesday he is “very upset” about Romanian authorities’ approach to the case of the Romanian citizen who died in Poland of starvation.
