Romanian Consulate In Chicago Celebrated Centennial In Trump Hotel
The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) organization announced that Romania, together with three other states, held events for their national celebrations in Trump-owned hotels.
The Romanian Consulate event was held on November 29 at a Trump hotel in Chicago.
“In another apparent example of a foreign government paying to hold an event at a property that President Trump still profits from, the Consulate General of Romania in Chicago celebrated Romania’s centennial Great Union Day at the Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago last month,” the organization said in a press release.
CREW also points out that Romanian National Day events were held at the Chicago Cultural Center in previous years.
The Philippines, Kuwait and Bahrain are other states which held similar events on Trump-owned properties, which NGO says raises concerns on whether foreign governments are seeking diplomatic gains by hosting such events at hotels formerly owned by the US President.
The President of the United States is forbidden by the country’s Constitution to receive payments from foreign governments.
