Romanian education minister Ecaterina Andronescu said Friday she accepted the resignations of Cristian Mirescu, director of the National Center for Curriculum and Evaluation in Pre-College Education (CNCEIP), and of the inspector adviser for the history curriculum, Rodica Tudorica.
According to the minister, a control has been unfolded at CNCEIP and the institution will have ne management next week.
"When all national exams are complete, the CNCEIP will enter restructuring," Andronescu said.
The dignitary added the ministry does not develop national exam topics and the CNCEIP is in charge, among its four competences, with the coordination and organization of the national exam and evaluations system.
Ecaterina Andronescu once again said that "pupils found in classes did not feel any impact, because the subjects reaching them were the correct ones."
The mistake in the history exam was a typo where "Armata II" (the second army) appeared as "Armata I" (the first army).
The subject for the national exam was checked by six people, respectively three inspectors designing the subjects, one supervising special inspector, one evaluation director and the director of the CNCEIP, Cristian Mirescu.
Of the 213,296 eighth graders attending these national exams 64,000 chose to have their history knowledge evaluated, while the rest went with geography.
According to Mirescu, the children received the subjects with the number I crossed out and replaced with the number II.
The history exam had 10 subject variants, and variant no. 5 was drawn for the exam held Thursday.
Parents asked the education minister to reevaluate all employees at CNCEIP and to dismiss management there.
Andronescu said on May 11 that she has requested the inspection of all national exam topics for math, history and geography, following the incident on May 7, where the topics for the exam on Romanian language and literature contained a mistake where two names had been switched in a fragment from a play by Ion Luca Caragiale.
