Romanian Def Ministry Aims To Obs Commitments In Afghanistan, Iraq, Balkan

Romanian defense minister Teodor Melescanu said Tuesday at the ministry’s 2007 activity report meeting that observing international commitments in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Balkans remains a top priority in 2008.

Among the Defense Ministry’s goals for 2008, Melescanu mentioned the ministry plans to set a level of participation to military missions abroad and start a strategic analysis process.

"Maintaining our international commitments in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Balkans also remains an essential goal,” the minister added.

Melescanu stressed that these goals need significant financial support, adding budget revisions have caused ample difficulty in the defense sector.
