Romanian Defense Committee Hears Int, Defense Mins On Troop Detachment
The Romanian Senate defense committee decided, Wednesday, to hear defense minister Teodor Melescanu and interior minister Cristian David on sending troops abroad, as well as several journalists from Romanian weekly "Academia Catavencu" regarding security at Airport Baneasa.

The committee decided to invite for hearings, next week, defense minister Teodor Melescanu, regarding the sending of Romanian troops to Chad.
In addition, the committee also invited interior minister Cristian David, regarding the potential participation of Ministry military in the peacekeeping forces at Kosovo.
The president of the committee, social democrat Cristian Diaconescu, mentioned that journalists from Romanian weekly "Academia Catavencu" were also summoned, regarding the security system at airport Baneasa, when the quoted weekly published a story on the matter.
Romanian president Traian Basescu stated Monday, after the meeting with French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy, that Romania will be a part of the EU forces in Chad, within conditions set by the UN Security Council in partnership with Europe, but mainly with France, which will run the potential operations.
Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu announced, in the Government meeting held last week, the approval of a note on Romania’s participation, with 120 soldiers, in the EU military mission in Chad and the Republic of Centrafrica, within the French army. The note was sent for approval to the High Council of National Defense, according to the Executive.
On the other hand, Basescu asked the Senate to approve the detachment of 60 police officers and 115 Gendarmerie units to the EU mission in Kosovo.
