"The Ministry of Defense states that the Legislation and Legal Assistance Department did not approve the initiative regarding the granting of amnesty for the deeds performed by military units during the events in December 1989, submitted in Parliament by the National Association of Retired and Retiring Military Units. The Ministry of Defense feels that such a project cannot be promoted without an organic law that would regulate the granting of amnesty or collective pardon," said a press release issued by the Ministry.

The action initiated by the mentioned NGO as a draft law, was sent the Ministry of Defense with the request for a stance, by the Committee for Defense, Public Order and National Security within the Chamber of Deputies, according to the press release.

The Ministry said this stance was taken by defense minister Teodor Melescanu within the meeting held with representatives of NGOs concerned in the matter.
