Romanian Defense Min To Be Summoned For Senate Hearing
Diaconescu, who is president of the Senate’s Defense Committee, said that Melescanau would be summoned to explain the extent to which the Ministry of Defense can fulfill the obligations it receives through international agreements, since the budget of the Ministry was cut by several hundreds of millions of lei in the budget correction.
Diaconescu mentioned that Melescanu needs to offer explanations regarding the acquisition of combat technology for the army, since such a commitment, in principle, is beneficial, but it is highly costly and obliges the Romanian state over several electoral cycles.
Diaconescu said that such arrangements, which might affect several governments, require political and public debates, and state secrecy cannot be invoked.
