Romanian Democrat Liberal Lawmakers Won’t Impede Prosecution Of Sports Minister – PM

Boc said any minister of his cabinet will answer for any irregularities and will be sanctioned under the law, if accusations are proven.

The prime minister reiterated he would sack Ridzi from the helm of the Ministry of Youth and Sports if she is prosecuted. He also denied media allegations that president Traian Basescu intervened to have the minister keep her position.

"PDL will not shield any minister from prosecution. The day DNA requires prosecution of any minister, that minister is dismissed. Justice must take its course,” Boc said.

On Friday, the prime minister, who also heads the Democratic Liberal Party, said the party is not looking to replace minister Ridzi and he would only dismiss her if she is prosecuted.

Information surfaced in the media Friday when unnamed sources said Ridzi resigned her position of minister, but the minister denied all such allegations.

Ridzi is under investigation by anticorruption prosecutors and a parliamentary commission for having allegedly illegally spent public money to organize celebrations marking Youth Day on May 2.

The president’s office said in a press release recently that the president will use his constitutional prerogative to suspend a minister if competent institutions request that minister’s prosecution.
