Romanian Democrat Liberals Adamant On Keeping Current Govt Protocol
Romanian democrat liberal leaders Vasile Blaga and Gheorghe Flutur said Tuesday, before the Government coalition meeting, that the social democrat leader’s announcement, that he will leave the country's Defense Council, is “a campaign play” adding the coalition protocol will not be changed.

"It was Geoana’s play on election day. We will not need to change the protocol (guiding the Government coalition). The name Geoana is not in that protocol, only the Senate chairman position," said Democratic Liberal Party secretary general Vasile Blaga.
Democrat liberal vice-president Gheorghe Flutur also said there can be no question of changing the coalition protocol, as requested by social democrat leader Mircea Geoana.
"I don’t think these are the parameters of the issue. It is a partnership concluded for this mandate, there can be no question of amending the protocol and these are not the lines along which we consider solutions. Geoana was campaigning, he made some statements, we’ll see," Flutur said.
Romanian Social Democratic Party president Mircea Geoana said Monday that he will officially request the amendment of the ruling coalition Protocol, to eliminate the provision whereby the Senate Chairman is also the vice-president of the High Council for National Defense (CSAT).
Geoana said he will make his request in Tuesday’s coalition assembly. He denied having signed the memorandum approving the withdrawal of Romanian troops from Iraq in a CSAT meeting, and said only the memorandum between the Romanian and Iraqi governments, in which the Iraqi Parliament asked that the Romanian military extend its stay until July 31, was discussed.
Geoana said Sunday he is withdrawing from the High Council for National Defense. The social democrat leader accused president Basescu of using the Army’s image for election purposes, referring to the recent visits the head of state made in Romania’s operation theaters in Iraq and Afghanistan.
