Romanian Democrat Liberals Have Moral Right To Claim PM Position - Party President

Romanian democrat liberal leader Emil Boc said Wednesday democrat liberals have the moral right to claim the prime minister position, but the decision belongs to President Traian Basescu.

He added democrat liberals are waiting for the head of state to invite parties to negotiations on the creation of the future government.

"We have the moral right to claim the prime minister position, but the president is free to make a decision on that after consultations with parliament parties,” Boc said.

“Until the president calls for consolations, the Democratic Liberal Party will have no talks or negotiations with other parties,” he added.

Democrat liberals gained the most seats in parliament following elections on Sunday.

Overall, the Democratic-Liberal Party gained 166 lawmaker seats, followed at a close distance by the social democrats with 163 seats. The liberals secured 93 seats, while the Hungarian minority party obtained 31 lawmaker seats.

Negotiations on a future majority for Parliament and the country’s future government are expected, as none of the parties that made parliament gained outright majority.
