Romanian Democrat Liberals, New Leftists Sign Collaboration Protocol

Romania’s ruling Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) and the newly created National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) signed Tuesday a political collaboration protocol, pledging mutual support in the Government and Parliament.

The protocol provides for a leadership committee made up of seven representatives from each of the two parties. The committee will meet monthly or whenever it is needed, the document says.

The National Union for the Progress of Romania was founded on May 1, 2010, by a group of independent lawmakers who had broken away from the Social Democratic Party and Liberal Party. Its official political orientation is center-left.
