Romanian Democrat Liberals Propose May 25 For Local Elections

Romania’s Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) proposed that local elections take place on May 25 and the electoral campaign start a month earlier, Mircea Toader, leader of the party’s Galati branch, southeastern Romania, and former secretary of state within the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform, told a press conference on Sunday.

"The Democratic Liberal Party mandated me to make public our proposal to organize the local elections on Sunday, May 25. Our proposal observes the new legal provisions based on which the date of elections must be announced 75 days before," according to Toader.

Victor Paul Dobre, secretary of state within the Ministry of Interior, in charge with organizing the elections, could not be contacted to state his point of view on the matter.

However, a month ago, when Toader made the same statement, Dobre contradicted him and said the government also considered the month of May for local elections, stressing that no decision whatsoever was actually made.
