Lawmakers of Romania’s Democratic Liberal Party, or PDL, will file a criminal complaint against Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu Tuesday for failing to observe the parliament’s decision to cancel the car tax, said democrat liberal Cristian Radulescu.
Romanian Democrat Liberals To File Criminal Complaint Against PM
"The prime minister, who did not bother to apply the simple motion, is committing abuse of office, which is why we are submitting a criminal complaint against him,” Radulescu told a news conference.
“Since the simple motion was submitted, Calin Popescu Tariceanu ill-willingly exercised his attributions as prime minister defectively and to the detriment of legal interests of the signatories of this complaint, public interests and citizens’ interests,” democrat liberal MP Raluca Turcan said in her turn.
She added the prime minister did not observe the decision adopted in the simple motion, to cancel the car tax, and ignored court rulings regarding the tax, as the government has done nothing to stop such litigations.
Turcan also asked prosecutors to investigate whether Tariceanu may also be charged with corruption, as he is the honorary president of the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association.
"This association, it has been proven, had to benefit financially from the introduction of the car tax. We require that state institutions should check whether the prime minister is guilty of other criminal offenses," Turcan said.
