The new provisions will amend the Fiscal Code and will come into force on April 1, 2009.
 
The Romanian specific excise will grow, starting with April 1, from EUR27.31 to EUR35.06 / 1,000 cigarettes, while the ad valorem excise will drop from 25% to 23% of the maximum sale price, according to a draft government ordinance
 
For beer and wines, the excises will remain unchanged.
 
The new amendments will bring a contribution of some RON590 million to the state budget (the equivalent of 0.1% of the Gross Domestic Product), according to calculations of the ministry.
