Romanian Deputies Scrap Car Purchases In ‘09

Romanian deputies consider an austere budget in 2009, with zero spending on cars or furniture, lower house Speaker Roberta Anastase said Wednesday.

“I requested the budget reflects the economic crisis,” Anastase said, adding the 2009 draft budget for the Chamber of Deputies is scheduled for debates on Thursday.

She said the funds available to the Chamber’s president will be reduced as well.

Humanitarian aid spending, however, will be kept in this year’s budget as well.

Anastase could not give an exact figure of the 2009 budget for the Chamber of Deputies.
