The reduction will also apply to child allowances regulated by Emergency decree 148/2005 and Law 61/1993.
The unemployment aid and the unemployment financial benefits granted monthly from the social security budget will also be slashed starting June 1. The funds allotted to people that get a job during their unemployment period will be as well reduced.
The 15% reduction will affect stipends to support families that face difficult financial problems and single-parent families, as well as stipends granted to newborns according to Law no. 416/2001 regulating minimum social benefits.
Benefits granted as severance under laws regulating social protection for military staff and civilians laid off due to reorganizations of state-owned companies will also be affected by the spending cut measure.
Romania will reduce minimum social pensions to 300 lei (EUR1=RON4.1756), from the current RON350, and will adjust them according to macroeconomic indicators and the country's financial resources.
Andreea Paul-Vass, economic adviser to Prime Minister Emil Boc, said Tuesday the Government will also reduce child-rearing benefits starting June 1 and it will soon be decided whether the benefits will drop to a given percentage or a fixed sum.
The Government will repeal the laws regulating trousseaus for newborns and financial aid for newlyweds.
Romanian President Traian Basescu said Sunday, after talks with union federation leaders, that social benefits for children and people with disabilities will not be reduced, adding all other subsidies are further poised to "analysis, reduction or elimination."
