The prime suspect in the double homicide at an exchange office in central Romanian city Brasov was heard Friday by prosecutors within the Brasov Court of Appeal, court spokesperson Ramona Diaconu told MEDIAFAX.
Romanian Double Homicide Suspect Heard By Prosecutors
Gorbunov was brought before prosecutors and heard for about one hour, after which he left the institution and returned to the custody of the Brasov County Police.
According to police sources, investigators are considering the hypothesis of two shooters, since ballistics show two different guns were used.
"Two different caliber weapons were used, which leads us to believe that there were two shooters,” the sources said.
Gorbunov’s sparring partner, Ninel Ianculescu, told MEDIAFAX Monday that on the day of the armed robbery, between 16.30 and 18.20 local time, Gorbunov was in k-boxing training, with at least ten other people.
According to Ianculescu, in the past three months, Gorbunov came three-four times per week to a gym close to the exchange office where the armed robbery took place.
Two people were shot dead and a third was injured during the armed robbery last Thursday at a currency exchange office in the center of Brasov.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, two of the victims were employees of the exchange office and the third, a passer-by who tried to stop the robber. The passer-by, 55, was shot in the heart and died shortly after the attack.
One of the exchange office’s employees, 33, was shot in the head and died in intensive care after a three-hour coma. The third victim, 38, lost an eye.
The attacker managed to steal a bag of money from the two exchange office employees, which he later abandoned in the street and fled the scene.
