Romanian Econ Min: Wages To See Single Digit Increases In ‘08

Romania’s minister of economy and finance Varujan Vosganian plans to present next week a set of measures to keep budget spending in line with official estimates with single digit increases in wages this year to maintain the country’s macroeconomic balance.

Vosganian said the new wages would be finished by next week, when he will present a thorough analysis of last year’s consolidated state budget to the government.

The government had already started analyzing the plans to increase state budget employees’ wages adjusted to the country’s productivity, Romania’sPrime Minister Calin Tariceanu said, adding he was also in favor of single-digit hikes in wages.

Tariceanu added education and healthcare should benefit from the largest wage increases.
