The Turkish company plans to build a 10,000-square meter private hospital on a plot of land it owns in Bucharest. The project would create over 500 jobs, Medicana’s board chairman Huseyin Bozkurt told MEDIAFAX on Wednesday.
„Our intention is to attract patients from European Union member states,” Bozkurt said.
He also said the company plans to open other hospitals in several Romanian cities.
Set up in 1992, Medicana currently owns six units in Turkey that provide healthcare services to 450,000 patients annually.
Besides Romania, the group plans to expand in Bulgaria, Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo.
In 2010, Medicana estimates sales of around $225.7 million, up 60% on the year.
Medicana employs around 1,900 people.
