Radulescu said Romania notified the EU in December 2009 to come check whether the country has any swine fever outbreaks left and whether it may resume swine exports. The state secretary added the it takes six months from the notification before EU experts come to analyze the situation.

„They’ll come and check for swine fever outbreaks and we could resume swine exports as of July,” he said.

Romanian swine and pork products have been under embargo in the EU since 2003 and the country’s swine exports are conditioned by its ability to control swine fever without vaccinating pigs.
