According to FSLI representatives, unionists received authorization to picket the ministry from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will march to the University Square to join protesters rallied there.

FSLI said Tuesday it will hold talks with unionists this week to stage a full-blown strike starting January 23, displeased that teachers’ wages will not be raised this year.

„Cartel Alfa” union leader Bogdan Hossu told MEDIAFAX earlier Wednesday unionists will decide this week if they will stage street demonstrations or go on full-blown strike at the end of January.

Romanians have been protesting countrywide since last week, demanding the resignation of President Traian Basescu and the Government, displeased with their anti-crisis policies.

Street demonstrations were sparked last Tuesday by the resignation of Dr. Raed Arafat from the position of deputy secretary of state in the Health Ministry. Arafat’s reappointment to the same position this week was not enough to quiet protesters.
