Romanian Education Unionists To Sue PM, Fin Min Over Statements On Teacher’s Wage Hike
Romania’s Federation of Education Unions “Spiru Haret” will sue economy and finance minister Varujan Vosganian and Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu over their statements on the Chamber of Deputy’s decision to hike teacher’s wages by 50%, the head of the federation, Gheorghe Isvoranu, said Saturday.

Isvoranu said he will discuss with leaders of the other two education federations - the Federation of Free Unions (FSLI) and the federation Alma Mater - to take the decision to sue together Tariceanu and Vosganian.
"First of all, we want to sue Vosganian for instigating public opinion, for causing collective hysteria and for saying that teachers are ruining the nation,” Isvoranu said.
He added the federation "Spiru Haret” also plans to sue Tariceanu, for his statements made on Saturday regarding the 50% increase in teachers’ wages.
“Education is a national priority, and when the Government has the possibility to observe the Constitution, it wants to file a request to the Constitutional Court regarding the law adopted by the Parliament. Tariceanu and Vosganian should be ashamed of this. We are telling them we shall post their pictures on all school walls,” Isvoranu said.
Aurel Cornea, head of FSLI, said Saturday the government should resign due to incompetence, adding that the ruling party is “a party of demagogues and opportunists”, as the liberals voted unanimously in favor of the wage increase, only to deny it later.
The Romanian Government decided to inform the Constitutional Court on a possible conflict between the Government and Parliament sparked by the adoption of the law stipulating a 50% hike in teachers’ wages, Tariceanu said Saturday.
