Romanian Embezzlement Suspect Caught As Illegal Immigrant In The US - Police

According to Romanian Police, the Washington Office informed the Romanian Interpol office about the apprehension of Necolaiciuc on American soil, in the state of Florida, under the charge of illegal immigration.

Bujor Florescu said in 2007 police had data that Necolaiciuc is in the USA, using addresses in Florida and Washington.

The Interpol will submit at the Bucharest District 1 Court a request for Nicolaiciuc’s extradition from the USA, said the quoted source.

The former general manager of CNCFR, Mihai Necolaiciuc, is internationally wanted since October 26, 2006, when police lost track of him, while anticorruption prosecutors linked him to 25 cases.

According to the Romanian Police, Mihai Necolaiciuc was included in an all points bulletin on October 26, 2006, after an arrest warrant was issued in his name for economic crimes.

The quoted source said Necolaiciuc is accused of having performed unwarranted investments between 200-2003, while he was at the head of the National Railroad Company, he purchased products at overestimated prices, causing losses of over 170 million lei (EUR1= RON4.2325).

However, the National Anticorruption Department initiated criminal investigations against him, in March 2006, the case also involving former secretary of state within the Ministry of Transport Traian Panait, both investigated for a fraud of over EUR27 million.

The mentioned case involved another 29 defendants, including former representatives of management at the Ministry of Transport and the National Railroad Company.
