Romanian Espionage Suspects Remain Under Arrest

Romanian petty-officer Floricel Achim and Bulgarian citizen Marinov Zikolov, both accused of treason and espionage, remained under arrest following a decision from the Romanian High Court of Justice.

The court rejected Thursday the appeal formulated by the two against the preventive arrest measure taken by the Bucharest Court of Appeal.

A noncommissioned officer of the Romanian Defense Ministry and a Bulgarian citizen were taken into custody for 29 days and are accused treason through the giving away of state secrets and espionage, in that they handled information jeopardizing national security.
