The amendment in question would see EU regulations apply to pipelines between member-states and third countries, for sections which traverse the member-states.

“The file was handled directly under the prime-minister’s coordination, due to its complexity and impact on the functioning of the internal market and for strengthening the European Union’s energy security (…) The directive proposal aims to ensure a consistent and transparent regulatory framework Union-wide, by extending the application of common EU regulations to natural gas interconnection projects with third states,” the Romanian Government announced in a press statement.

The executive adds that, according to the mandate, Romania’s EU Council presidency intends to start negotiations with the European Parliament on the matter as fast as possible, aiming to finalize the case before the European elections in May.
